Goldfinger
Location: Trellick Square, 13-15 Golborne Road, London
Goldfinger is a social enterprise that designs and creates the most beautiful sustainable furniture and home goods. Their bespoke furniture is absolutely gorgeous, made using sustainable materials, both virgin and reclaimed (check out what they did with Fat Macy’s and Gail’s Bakery).
If you’re in the market for one-of-a-kind, elegant furniture, don’t miss their exclusive Goldfinger Ayrton Collection, which they are auctioning for London Craft Week 2021 (the auction went live this week, and will go on until October 7th — you can bid here if you’re interested!). This is the first in their circular design collection — it’s handcrafted from reclaimed teak donated by Imperial College London, combined with sustainably sourced douglas fir. The collection includes a desk, chair, side table and bench. Like everything else at Goldfinger, the collection tells a story. I especially love the subtle brass detailing on the pieces, which reminds you of the materials’ former life as lab benches at the university. If you’re around London on October 6th, they’re hosting a launch event that will include cocktails, canapes and a talk by purpose-driven writer and keynote speaker Katie Treggiden. Not one to miss!
And it’s all for a good cause too — profits from the auction will help fund Goldfinger Academy, which is their teaching arm under which they run a number of programs. One of their many fantastic initiatives is an apprenticeship program primarily aimed at young local residents that are not in work or education, that teaches skills such as carpentry and craftsmanship.
Goldfinger also recently launched their sustainable design shop, which started with an online sustainable marketplace, and has now evolved into a physical store in London, which I was lucky enough to get a tour of (a big thank you to Leslie, Marie and Carl for showing me around!). Each product is carefully chosen — they feature over 200 products that are either handmade by their own artisans, or by independent makers and local brands who share their values. I bought this rose face and body soap (which smells absolutely divine) by La Eva for my mum and my husband’s mum and this adorable Adam mug by Studio Peover.
Last but definitely not least is their People’s Kitchen initiative. Since the pandemic hit last year, they began a meal delivery service for vulnerable and isolated people in the local community. (they’ve donated over 5,000 meals in the past year and a half). Photo: Goldfinger
